I need to teach kids about a unique physical activity?
I have to develop a unit of work about a physical activity for university. Later on I will probably have to teach it to a class of primary aged students.
It can't be any of the 'usual' sports, ie: football, netball, basketball, tennis, etc etc.
I want to do something really different that kids most likely have not encountered before, that doesn't need a lot of equipment as IF I teach the unit of work, I will be at a school 200km from my university (therefore won't have access to equipment that us students are entitled to access)
Does anyone have any suggestions?
How about a large-muscle coordination activity?
The child (all children get a turn) holds a piece of chalk in each hand, nose against the blackboard so they can only look ahead and
1- make a circle with each hand simultaniously, first clockwise, then counterclockwise, then in opposite directions, a few times over and over- the goal is to form one distinct circle rather than different sizes and overlaps.
2- same with squares, triangles
visualization activity-
same as above- have children print an easy word, such as LOVE (girls would love it, boys hate it- have one for each gender).
1- first print left-to right with both hands-
2- print right to left with both hands - backwards, and correctly-
3- use each hand in opposition to the other.
4- same activity in cursive writing of own name if they've learned to do that.
Should be fun for them . easy for you, will reveal child's coordination and visualization skills
