
why do schools teach books about stereotypes and racism such as Of Mice and Men and a Raisin in the Sun?
Im doing a research paper for english and this question confuses me very much PLEASE HELP OR RESPOND A.S.A.P
The works stand on their own merit. The teacher, however, could use the text to begin a discussion of stereotypes, their validity or lack of, how conforming to them may have been in some way protective or how breaking them may have been heroic. Depending on the instructor and the age/maturity of the participants, it could be a valuable exercise.
