teaching picture books
Know some good picture books?

I plan on teaching a unit in which my sophomore English students (high school) explore questions they have about other cultures around the world. The plan is to have them research the answers and turn that research into children's books. I would like to have some models, real picture books that give insight into other cultures around the world.

If nothing else, can you help me find a good place to start?

The Singing Man by: Angela Medearis is based on a folktale from Nigeria. It is a 4th-5th grade picture book. Also, try the public library. They will have a cultural section in the children's section. If not, the librarian can help you. I often have to get books from the public library for my 5th grade class.
