teaching high school history
When public school elementary/high school history is taught, why is the "ugly truth" left out?

Are they worried that we would have to demonize Washington?
They had slaves, they grew marijuana, they were not terribly p.c.
I personally love that something is not p.c. but why the fairy tale?

I'm not sure what this has to do w/ your question, but it made me think of this: we drove downtown tonight to see the Christmas lights at the court house. They had a dinosaur, a weird light up of a man with a fish on his fishing pole line, a snake and a lawnmower looking thing. Are they SO scared of offending someone about the whole holiday issue that they are putting up crap totally unrelated? Tomorrow, when no one is expecting it, I say we go trash the yard.
