I just started teaching a 4 year old class. How do I get them to listen and behave? Especially on the carpet?
I am using the stop light as the behavior modification, but I'm not sure how often I should move them to yellow. And should I expect them to be really quiet during circle time if we are playing a game in which each person takes a turn doing something? For example, we played this game called "jumping over blocks"..but when some of the kids already had their turned, they wouldn't stop talking to the kid nex to them, and that got another kid to talk, and so on...until they all just lost interest in what we were doing. So I thought maybe it'd be a good idea if I taught them that no one should talk and be respectful of the other person's turn. But then again, they're four years old. That is just one of my many many questions. Does anyone have any advice?
Play games that teach following directions and then verbally praise children for following directions.
Additionally, directly teach the social skill of how to take-turns.
Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
