Would MJ still be the GOAT if he didn't go to college?
I think college taught him the basic fundamentals of basketball and how to be a team player.
Chuck: Maybe if you graduated HS, you wouldn't be such a douche
Chuck: The Alabama public school system failed you
A lot of very good players didn't go to college. But the ones (MJ, Magic, Tim, Shaq) that lead their teams to championships went for at least a couple of years. It must have something to do with leadership. Maybe Lebron will break this cycle.
No, because MJ wasn't that skilled when he first entered college.
MJ was taught how to play defense and make jumpshots in UNC.
Apparently, MJ's high school days sucked at first (he didn't make the team), and then he worked on his layups and gotten great at it, not to mention getting taller. Basically, MJ's senior year in high school is like Lebron's game - he can get inside and make high-percentage shots, but fade-aways and quick shots, no. And UNC gave him Rip Hamilton-Ray Allen's game and a defense like no others guards before or after him (at least so far). If not for UNC, we would never have seen MJ's signature fade-away jumpers.
Lebron should have gone to a good college where they would force him to learn a more all-around game. For example, this season, it did wonders for Derrick Rose!
That's why MJ is GOAT. He's not born to be a basketball player. He made himself the greatest basketball player ever.
Also, MJ and fellow Chicagoan Bill Cosby did wonders for race relations. Black people are more respected and could be perceived to be classy. It seems to have taken a downward spiral since OJ and Kobe though. Now people complain about black athletes being gangsters when Rodman was like the only one back then, but Rodman was "colorful" at it and people found that entertaining. How are rape, bar fights, and duis they do now entertaining?
