Besides helping to basic education and subtraction?
Im working with a child entering 3rd grade whos struggling a bit with math. When work with him one by one and gently push it to the answers (ie remind subtraction regrouping to begin with, or to ask you to check) that can solve most problems of all levels. His method seems to be mostly counting on his fingers. When someone has to add and subtract using Basic cards, however, struggles. So my analysis is that in the back of his head he knows what hes doing, but lacks confidence, and should be random punched card base so hes not count and establishes trust. Any other suggestions? Thanks!
Soon learning the answer in a flash memory card's memory and immediate memory. He obviously is not safe at this time. More time is needed to use materials (tens of meters and frames, place value materials) before they are expected to do without them. Please do not just drill it. Let him use the material until it is safe and really understand what is happening when you add and subtract. Lots of adults who have learned "drill and skill" or rote learning we know that 8 x 8 = 64, but have no idea which means 8 groups of 8. leave work at their own pace and provide support and positive reinforcement. Lots of flash card sets will only cause bad feeling but not good at math.
