teaching 4th grade science
1st year of teaching Grade 4 .. any advice?

Hello I will be teaching grade 4 in September ... this is my first year classroom and I'm excited but nervous ridiculously ... just graduated college 1.5 years ago ... so I'm still relatively young and without experience (i that the student is taught in k, 1.3 before) Does anyone have any tips or advice to give me ... especially the first few days ... What activities to do. I am also teaching at a charter school that focuses on science and mathematics ... some tips on how to teach certain subject areas right? What kind of concepts are more difficult for them. any advice would be greatly appreciated! thanks.

I was a teacher freshmen, last year. I teach 3rd grade. I think the most important thing to remember is to start the year by building a sense of community in their classroom. No activities that help students get to know yourself and each other. The first day of school I got a lunch bag of white paper at each student with a couple of little things about me (pencil, rubber, adhesives, books of etiquette, etc.) and then, while students are arriving, you can decorate your white coat. Then I have all students take home the bag and bring it back the next day, with 3-5 things that help us know better. I give all students the opportunity to share what they brought and why they chose those items. I think it's a fun way for children to talk about themselves, students ask questions, and meet each other. You will receive through it! Take one day at a time. It can be overwhelming, but remember this is what they have gone to school to do. You have education, now is the time to put in action. Good luck!
