9th Grade Science Help?
I need help with a few of my science questions. I'm home schooled so I have to teach myself. But I can't fail...
1.) The bond formed between Be (atomic number 4) and Iodine (atomic number 53) would probably be:
A. covalent
B. ionic
C. metallic
D. network
2.) Covalent bonds form crystals:
True or False----- I think it is False
3.) Malleable solids are substances whose molecules are very large:
True or False ------- I think it is False
4.) An element that occurs in Family 18 of the periodic table will have seven valence electrons:
True or False
5.) The element argon is in Family 18; it will form positive ions:
True or False
6.) The process of removing electrons and forming charged atoms is called electrification:
True or False
** Any help is appriciated (not answers like ' do your own work')
Thank you for your help. **
1) Ionic, because Be is a metal while iodine is not. The charge of Be is +2 as it is in group 2 of periodic table and iodine is 1- as it is in group 7 of periodic table. Ionic compounds are formed mainly between metal ions and non-metal ions. An exception would be ammonium compounds such as NH4Cl.
2) False
3) False
4) False, family 18 is argon so it has 8 valence electrons.
5) False, it's a noble gas, it has 8 electrons in the outermost shell, so it won't take part in any reactions, so not forming any ions at all.
6) False, definitely not called electrification, this process is forming ions.
