Author Teaching the Writing Process to 3rd Graders?
I was asked to teach a class of 3rd graders about the writing and publication process for 30 minutes (as I am a teen author). Those were the only instructions I were given, so obviously, it seems that I have a lot of flexibility in ways to approach this.
The thing is, I really don't know how I can do this so it'll be fun and exciting for 3rd graders (but hopefully not cheesy). I want to keep their attention for the full lesson. It's my first book promotion so I would really like to do a good job with it.
Basically, my question is: does anyone have experience with this? Or are there any idea or pointers?
Thanks!
I'm self-published, if that's of any help.
We had an author come in and do the same thing.
When I saw she was coming I was dreading it because she spoke at a school I was at several years ago and it was boring.
However, this time it was much more interesting.
She had a powerpoint that featured pictures of things she wrote when she was their age, pictures of where she got her ideas for writing, pictures of her notes, drafts, etc. all the way to her final copy.
Visually, the kids could go on her journey with her from idea to published book. And they were really really into it. (These were 2nd graders).
