Religion, Ethics and Social Practice

what can I do to practice social skills with my autistic son?

My son has PDD and is also hearing impaired. He will be starting Middle School this year and he needs more help with socializing.

One strategy I use, I call SCAN. I made it up to use with children who had Emotional Disturbance, but have found it highly effective with any disability that interferes with the acquisition or application of social skills. Go into public places, especially where kids his age hang out (the mall, a restaurant?). Play a game of describing or copying behaviors the others are doing. Also point out behaviors they are not engaging in. Teach the rule "See, Copy, Actions, No-no's" (SCAN) The goal is for your son to watch people his age in social situations. How do they greet each other, compliment each other, ask questions, depart a conversation, joke around. Equally important what behaviors do they NOT display? If he has any hearing, check volume of voices, phrases and physical interactions NOT observed. Include things like personal space -- how close or far apart do the other kids stand or sit with good friends, familly or strangers? Do they hug, shake hands, high five? Role play situations at home.

Another strategy is called "scripting". In this strategy, your son would practice with you a specific, memorized routine (you can write it out together if he is able to participate) for certain situations. "Asking a question in class", "getting help from a friend" ,"asking a favor" might be a few to use. Middle School can be tough. The more he feels like he "knows what to do" the more confidently he will approach both practiced and new situations.

You might also visit with a few of your friends or acquaitances with same age children to form a "Circle of Friends" that your son can go to if he becomes confused, frightened or frustrated. These other kids would make a commitment to him as part of his Circle, to stand up for him, include him in activities, and explain things to him. Help him teach a few people to sign if that is a form of communication he uses. This makes both them and him 'instantly cool' at school!

I have seen all of these strategies make drastic differences. You are his greatest asset in this new adventure. Notice when he uses a scripted response or a practiced skill and compliment him. A simple thumbs up will be awesome. I wish you and your family the best. Godbe with you.

Social Recruiting – How To Attract Candidates Via Social Media

Those who are looking for a way to find people for various positions can use a social recruiting site that practices social recruiting from various different types of social media, including Facebook and Twitter.  Those who are looking for new faces or who are looking for people to fill jobs can use this type of system to get the right people for the right job.  Social recruiting will help companies as well as recruiting firms to find the right person for the job.

It can often be difficult to get people when you are a recruiting agency or a company that is looking to hire.  One of the best ways to recruit is to use social recruiting methods, although this can take quite a bit of time.  If you use an online social recruiting strategy, however, you have a much better chance of getting the people or person that you want from the many candidates that are on the internet.

Social recruiting is a tool used by hiring managers, recruiting companies as well as anyone who deals in human resources. There are many social networks online that cater to the professional person.  While some people use social networking as a way to keep in touch with others and just to have fun, others use this as a way to find a job as well as network for their business.  A social recruiter site will gather those people who are on the various social networks for various purposes.  Social recruiting is quickly becoming the most popular way for recruiters to find the right candidates for jobs.

Those who have recruiting agencies or companies are always looking for a way to attract the highest level of employees.  Those who are looking for the top notch candidates for any job need to know where to find them.  There are a variety of different social networks that are geared towards professionals.  A good social recruiting company will know how to use these social networks to get the best people for various types of professions. Effective use of social media can help those who are looking for the best candidates for professional positions find these candidates.

Social recruiting is becoming the gold standard for finding the top quality people for all types of professional positions.  Those who are looking to fill positions or work in human resources or are a recruiter should see what a social recruiter can do for them.  Using this method, it is easier to find people who are top quality and even recruit them from other companies.  This is not just a hiring tool, but a way for companies as well as recruiting agencies to find the best people for any type of job.

A social recruiting expert can mean the difference between getting top quality individuals for their market to just trying to get people to answer advertisements for positions.  Social recruiting can be used in a number of different ways and works to garner people from social networks.
