Will travel and tourism course lead to teaching overseas?
I am starting a Travel and Tourism course soon and was wondering where this may lead to?
I am very interested in travel and tourism but the majority of jobs available (airhost, travelagent, tourguide, etc) are not what i was thinking of. I have researched and found that if you sit a TEFL course then you can teach english abroad. This is more of what im looking for. I have been told that if i want to have a more secure and well paid teaching job abroad then i need a degree as well as a TEFL certificate.
So this is why i am planning on going to college to achieve a HND which will give me access to university.
I plan to sit an NC in T&T which will take 1 year.
Then i will progress to HNC which will also take 1 year
I will then do the HND which will take 2 years.
After this i plan to go to university and do a degree maybe in tourism mangagement.
Do you think all this studying of travel and tourism will benefit me in any way when i plan to teach english overseas?
Well from my understanding a degree in travel and tourism is most useful for someone who wants to work in the traveling industry, places such as hotels, cruise ships, etc., With teaching abroad it would be interesting to know about the place in which you are traveling to to teach, but the emphasis with teaching english overseas is definitely focused on the language. Education majors are most likely more suited to these types of careers because they have gained knowledge and understanding about teaching methods. TESL certificate and study is ideal if your focus is going to be on teaching, not the travel and tourism course.
