Is the Alpha Omege LIFEPAC homeschool good?
I'm thing about doing the Alpha Omega LIFE-PAC home school program for ninth and tenth grade. If anyone does it, or knows anyone that does it, please tell how it is. Are the books good? Do you like it does it teach you alot? Thanks!
Alpha Omega is a Bible Based Curriculum Publisher. They have been publishing homeschool curriculum for more than 30 years. The LifePacs, like all AOPs curriculum has a very strong academic base. LifePacs are a worktext, which means you receive a packet of 10 smaller unit work books that contain everything you need for a year's worth of study for each subject. Each of the ten units cover one specific topic. All the text, quizzes and unit test is included within each worktext. Basically if you progress through one work text per month you will cover the grade level in one year. The work texts are more manageable than larger textbooks and workbooks if you need to take work with you. We only used LifePaces used for grades 1 and 2 and then we switched to AO Switched on Schoolhouse. SOS is the computerized version of the LifePacs. Although some subjects present the material in a different sequence, they basically cover the same material using a multimedia approach. Although SOS met our family's needs better than the LifePacs (SOS was more economical since it was completely reusable for each student, and the computer graded most of the work for me) I would highly recommend LifePacs if you prefer written text over working on the computer. If you like doing your work on the computer, than I'd encourage you to look into SOS. In addition to all the text, quizzes, and tests found in the LifePacs, you have the added benefit of video clips, slide presentations, tiny tutor explanations, and learning games to help you study. Also the SOS auto grading, lesson planning and record keeping features is a real plus for Mom. Its also makes preparing transcripts for college of reporting to the state (if required in your state) much easier.
As to the question does Alpha Omega Curriculum provide a thorough college prep program, my oldest son graduates in May after using LifePacs for grades 1-2 and SOS from grades 3-12. He will attend an Ivy League University in the fall of 2010 with a 4 year academic scholarship.
