mindful teaching and teaching mindfulness

by admin on February 15, 2008

I am a graduate student and fulltime employee at an institution of Higher education. My goal is to get a Phd?

But here is the delimma, I want to teach workshops on mindfulness, empowerment, dress for success, diversity and tolerace, and personal sucess, confidence bulidng.
How to I get there. I am working on a masters in education: Post Adult and Continuing Education - teaching Adult leaners there. I like the classroom, but I want to teach workshops around the country, like in womens studies, personal coaching etc....any advice... this is a cry for help after thorough contemplation for like more than two years ...now I am reaching out...I thank you all in advance for your mindful answers.

You need to get your PhD so that you get credibility. You could try a multidisciplinary PhD in education/women's studies/ sociology/ human development, etc. This may require an extra year or so of extra classes in the fields that interest you.

What is stopping you for doing this now on a volunteer basis? You could volunteer to present some of your ideas to women in shelters, church groups, to high school girls--you must know a teacher somewhere? Doing these presentations will give you the opportunity to do it in reality and see if you really like it. Also you wil learn how to gear your information to the group you are presenting it too.

Good luck! The time to start is now.
