What to teach on the first day of Year 4s?
I begin my first year teaching in September, and I have a class of 4 years. What I do in the first day? I want that cooperation activities to promote the spirit of class and good conversation, but still be quite fool proof and easy to handle and it's going to be very stressful as it is! I'm not thinking in teaching math or English that day, so any other ideas? I am also a specialist in art for art, possibly something that is based, but without many resources, because they can not use up the materials art to the whole school on the first day! Thanks
Take the largest piece of cardboard I can find. (Old posters advertising Cadbury's are great!) I design a puzzle on the white side and make sure the lock on all sides. I make sure I have a piece for each student in my class besides 2 or 3 -- students new case was filed. I also put a point on the upper edge of the piece. Then cut them out. All this is done prior to day one. On the first day, we I give each student a piece. I take a digital photo of each student, as they fall, then print them. I ask each student to decorate your piece of a puzzle with his favorite sport, books, food, picture of your family or friends - Whatever. Then put the puzzle together, talking about how we can put our forces together to build our class. Make sure you have more to do in the first or second day than you would ever need.
