Does one need a License to teach Martial Arts in the city of Wichita Ks?

I know insurance is in order. As is equipment and other expenses. As far as I know one only needs to be knowledgable, profesional and personable in order to run a Martial arts class. But if thats not the case can someone tell me what legal requirements there are? Please include sources.

Thank you.

The only license you need is a business license from the city or county.

If you want to be affiliated with a national or international organization for your style, that would be a good idea. It could bring credibility to your school. Many of these organizations require you to be authorized by their higher-up instructors in order to teach, showing that you have the requiste knowledge, experience, and skills in your style, as well as the necessary teaching skills to professionally represent your style and the orgnization. It's also good showing that you still go for training by someone at a higher level than you and have their approval to teach. For example, in my iaido style, you must be at least 3rd Dan and have the permission of the Soke (grandmaster) in Japan to open your own school. To reach 4th Dan and higher in my style you have to be invited to train and test in Japan in front of all the top instructors and the Soke.

It's easy to open McWhatever and take people's money, people do it every day and they force the good schools to suffer from their bad reputations, but really teaching the martial arts, good martial arts, is harder. All the people that I know who are really passionate about teaching their arts and take pride in them don't try to make a living out of teaching. They have regular jobs and teach evenings and weekends. It's too eazy to get caught up in trying to make the cash and forget the quality of the martial art.
