
Volunteer for Chocco youth group/ Ecotourism in Peru
Hampy is a non profit organization created in November 2004, whose central objectives are: To provide sustainable development at local, regional and national levels. To innovate methods of teaching Spanish to foreigners throught interactive, fun and experiencial classes. Volunteers are required for this placement as it One of the largest projects that is currently running within the Community of Chocco has a youth group that meets three times per week. The primary focus of this group is to pro actively reach and educate the next generation of Chocco in an attempt to increase their awareness of the potential for growth within the community. Each two hour session includes training on how to run a small business, English language training, team work activities and problem solving skills. Chocco has social problems like teen pregnancy, alcoholism, domestic violence which need to be addressed and solutions need to be sought to better the future for the next generation. To innovate the volunteer work through well organized and structured projects. To generate preventive therapy and health programs.
Volunteers can assist by doing the following tasks:
The members of this group work collaboratively to set goals and find ways to realistically reach these goals as a team. The project is designed to help the youth develop ways of generating employment opportunities for themselves as well as building a more economically secure future for the community. We believe that we can attack the bases of the problems which generate all these social issues, then we want to help the community's economy through profitable activities like:
1. Eco-hikes through the community and environment with local guides (children and teenagers). These hikes present a guide to local plants and flowers and how they are used in everyday life. The hikes are being marketed to the local community and tourists in order to put money back into the community.
2. Chocco women weavers. (to sell products to the groups of tourists during the hikes).
3. Children crafts market. (to sell products to the groups of tourists during the hikes).
4. Eco-camps in the Chocco community. A camp is being built where locals/tourists can stay overnight.
Specific activities for volunteers:
-To organize working groups.
-To provide technical sessions for each project.
-To promote and look for the best way to support the projects.
-To look for and manage donations. Volunteers must be of age 20 or above with minimum education of Undergraduation.
Volunteers with the following special skills are preferred for the placement:-
Child & Youth Worker At-Risk Youth Work Leadership Programming Recreational Programming Social Worker (BSW) Social Work Student Psychologist Psychology Student Addiction Counseling.
