Do you need a certificate to teach in a school cook;?
I've been cooking most of my life I am certified in the professional kitchen, as a cook, but this job intails working with children to teach them in and out of the professional kitchen at school. I need to get a teaching cert? business management course? I have about a year before opening this job and would like to be in. Any suggestions? thanks for the input.
To teach in a school, must be certified to teach in that state. It is also more complicated than just taking the test to get your certificate teachers. It is also definitely need a certain degree of four years, but I'm not sure what your grade should be in for to teach you how to cook / EC house. I am a music teacher and earned a degree in music education. You should contact the office of the school district board and have them tell you what steps to follow. A year's time, probably not enough to prepare for this position, I'm sorry to say. There is so much more to teaching than just knowing the subject. I'm sure you're a great cook, however, "to be a teacher, no school in teaching classes will need. Another thing that should come is George Bush" No Child Left Behind mandate and how it affects teacher recruitment. If you live in a rural area and no one better qualified wants the job, there could be some flexibility for you: http://www.ed.gov/nclb/methods/teachers/hqtflexibility.html
