Teaching in Alaska?
I can go to Alaska this year and have been thinking about becoming a teacher for the past few years. Does anyone can you tell me what it takes to be a teacher or a replacement in AK? I have a degree and can pass a background check. I need to get a degree in education? What is the need, and faculty there and what rules you have to fulfill? I am willing to teach all grades, but have a preference for middle and high school.
I lived in Fairbanks, Alaska for three years (1993-1996). At that time, his works have been competitive the "urban" areas (populated areas) and Anchorage / surroundings, Fairbanks / surroundings. If you wanted to teach in the "Bush", the possibilities are a little better, but not necessarily, especially if they were from "outside" (the underpass 48.) The way of life, of life and environment is so different in Alaska. Not worse, not better, just different. Being in a sparsely populated area of Alaska is its own culture shock, much less be in the "Bush", in an area would be accessible only by plane or dogsled. The powers would not only newcomers in this situation, especially when the Most students would be likely to be Alaska Natives. Think of the total population of Alaska is the size of a medium sized city in the 48 (about 750-800 thousand) and that there are basically three roads across the state - one of Anchorage to Fairbanks, a Fairbanks to Valdez and crosses the European Week in the middle between these two and continues through Canada (the Al-Can). But I loved going there and back in a heartbeat - my parents disown me to take their grandchildren so far back is the only thing that kept me away:) To be certified in Alaska, you need: + to be certified in another state of reciprocity, + Submit official transcripts, + a form completed by your college / university where he attended his teaching / education program, + Two fingerprint cards FBI digital (can be done at any local Board of Education / dept sheriff.) + A notarized statement, + a full statement by the State has certified that, more than one copy of passing test scores Education (Praxis I or teachers of other consideration) + and application fee of $ 191.
