Euphonium, what do we have to do to familiarize the public with this instrument in the 21st century?
Having been a century and simple, give or take a couple decades, the euphonium is one of the rarest of wind instruments used in concert bands today. Some have been attempts to integrate it into different genres, such as the orchestra (which Holst Planets) and, recently, the bands of jazz (improvisation potential rivals trumpet), but frankly, the euphonium has not been put in with the public. Personal experience tells us that about 1 in every 40 people I know have some idea of what is the euphonium. What is your recommendation for promotion of this fine instrument in public opinion over the next 30 years? Only when the common man can see a euphonium and acknowledge in the same way that today anyone can recognize a trombone, clarinet, trumpet and the euphonium becomes increasingly important those of equality and justice among his musical partners. Any suggestions to carry it out?
Only Bill Clinton has shown in euphonium for a performance Live from "Mars" from Holst's planets. If nothing else, I would get a smile from her.
